Po wynikach dysków wykorzystujących USB 2.0 widać, że już najwyższa pora na zmianę interfejsu na nowszy, bo wersja 2.0 najwyraźniej osiągnęła już granicę swoich możliwości. Dyski wykorzystujące USB 3.0 mogą być od dwóch do pięciu razy szybsze w odczycie danych.
Najlepiej w odczycie danych radzi sobie z kolei dysk SSD, co jest świetnym dowodem na to, że tego rodzaju nośniki doskonale nadają się na dysk systemowy, na którym przechowywane będą też najpotrzebniejsze aplikacje.

Jeśli chodzi o szybkość zapisu, to sytuacja jest bardzo podobna. O ile jednak dyski magnetyczne wykorzystujące USB 3.0 mogą śmiało konkurować ze swoimi odpowiednikami z interfejsem SATA II, to topowa konstrukcja w postaci Velociraptora wyraźnie nad nimi góruje. W niektórych przypadkach "Jaszczur" Western Digital może być nawet szybszy od dysku Kingston SSDNow V.
